boating_first_aidBoating is something that appeals to all sorts of different people from all walks of life. Although it is largely considered a leisure activity, it is still important to keep safety in mind.  The fact that you are out on the water, sometimes far from shore, for long periods of time, is enough to raise the caution level.  Every vessel that ventures out onto the water should have a marine first aid kit. With summer just around the corner, here are five things that you should gather for your marine first aid kit and store on your boat:

    1.  Bandages

Naturally, keeping several different kinds of bandages in your marine first aid kit is a good idea.  This list should include different-sized basic adhesive bandages, butterfly style bandages and different shapes and sizes of gauze.  You might also want to add a tensor bandage or two on the off-chance someone sprains an ankle or wrist while out on the water.  Continue reading

" AN" is a potential component in bomb making and explosives.
Canada, along with the US and European Union, UK, Australia and others have put considerable licensing and inventory controls on "AN" and it's distribution.
First Aid Zone is pleased to announce that all instant cold packs we sell, no longer contain Ammonium Nitrate. Our supplier has developed an alternative chemical formula that is safe. • Our Top Uses for Trainer's Tape

Trainer's tape plays an essential role in safety and treatment in sports related injuries. It provides support to the elbow joint, wrist joint, knee joint and ankle joint. It is used to prevent and treat injuries during sports and is very popular with athletes. It is very effective in preventing and treating muscle pulls and sprains.

The tape is usually made of cotton fabric coated and is with an adhesive that contains zinc oxide. The reason zinc oxide is used is because it helps reduce or eliminate irritation. Other materials are also used to make the tapes.

Trainers tape is effective only if it is applied correctly. If it’s wound too tightly, it can impede blood circulation and make the injury worse. If it is wound too loosely, then the affected area may not get the desired benefit. Therefore, a trainer's tape has to be applied by a trained person. The good news is that anyone can learn to apply the tape effectively with some training. Continue reading

  • Why Canadians Should Purchase Stethoscopes from a Canadian Retailer

Littmann Select StethoscopeIf you are in the market to buy a stethoscope, then you are probably surfing the net for a high quality and low priced product. However, there is one more variable you should consider when shopping online for a stethoscope - you should buy from a Canadian retailer. If you are a resident of Canada, then you will want to buy your stethoscope from a Canadian retailer for several reasons:

    1. Shipping: First and foremost, we have all dealt with the dreaded shipping costs when ordering internationally. You may find a very affordable stethoscope that meets all of your criteria, but when you process the order, you end up paying double the original price in shipping costs. When you purchase your stethoscope in Canada, you will not incur these large costs as the delivery will be more local.
    2. Quality Products: When purchasing a stethoscope, you want to ensure it is good quality and manufactured following the highest standards. If you are looking to purchase stethoscopes outside of Canada, you may end up getting a faulty or counterfeit product. Continue reading
